A one-day visit by scientists from Shenzhen Bay Laboratory to Pingshan

The south is like fire, and the dangui is fragrant. On November 11, Hu Xiaojun, Secretary of the Party Committee, led more than 11 young scientists and functional departments of the laboratory to visit Pingshan District, and had in-depth discussions with Tao Yongxin, Secretary of the Pingshan District Party Committee, Li Yong, District Mayor and other main responsible comrades, investigated the construction of the laboratory Pingshan Biomedical R&D and Transformation Center, and visited local universities and representative enterprises to carry out extensive exchanges on scientific research project cooperation. Relevant personnel of the Organization Department of the Pingshan District Party Committee and the District Talent Work Bureau accompanied the inspection.

The first stop of the delegation came to the Pingshan Biomedical R&D and Transformation Center (hereinafter referred to as "Pingshan Center"), a research institution directly under the laboratory, located in the production-university-research base of the high-tech zone. Li Zigang, executive director and senior researcher of the Pingshan Center, gave a detailed explanation to Secretary Hu Xiaojun and his party on the progress of the center's construction. Since the signing of the strategic cooperation agreement between the laboratory and the Pingshan District People's Government in 2019, the Pingshan Center has rapidly promoted the implementation of legal person registration and site construction, and planned and laid out nearly 3000,34 square meters of chemical and biological floors and administrative office areas. At present, the decoration and transformation of biological GMP workshop, cell room, open laboratory, pilot laboratory and other experimental sites and related equipment procurement, installation and commissioning have been completed, and it has entered the trial operation stage. Pingshan Center has 35 full-time staff, of which more than 10% are doctors, has published more than 3 SCI papers in internationally renowned journals, and obtained 10 PCT patent applications. The center also organized an international innovative drug technology development forum to facilitate high-end academic exchanges, and cooperated with China Resources Sanjiu, Bangtai Hesheng, Health Yuan and other enterprises to carry out original technology and project cooperation to explore new paths for the transformation of achievements. During the new crown pneumonia epidemic, Pingshan Center urgently launched emergency research, jointly established more than <> joint research projects, and initially established a rapid response mechanism for public health incidents.

Secretary Hu Xiaojun said that in just one year, the Pingshan Center has undergone gratifying changes, and has achieved outstanding results in platform construction, talent introduction, scientific research project establishment, and international cooperation, which is worthy of recognition. It is hoped that Pingshan Center will continue to play the role of the core transformation platform of the laboratory, strive to create a new model of exemplary scientific research services, and build itself into a R&D transformation center with international influence as soon as possible, serving the construction of "dual zones".

Later, the laboratory delegation came to Shenzhen University of Technology to visit the newly established School of Pharmacy of Shenzhen University of Technology. Professor He Zhuodan, Dean of the School of Pharmacy of Shenzhen University of Technology, welcomed the arrival of the laboratory and introduced the staff, professional settings and first enrollment plan of the School to the guests. Secretary Hu Xiaojun pointed out that the laboratory Pingshan Center and Shenzhen University of Technology are close neighbors, and both are newly established scientific research institutions, and there are many similarities between the two sides in terms of research direction and innovation mechanism, and they can establish cooperation in multiple fields in the future, strengthen academic exchanges, and jointly help the development of regional biomedical industry to a new level.

At the district committee and district government, Tao Yongxin, secretary of the Pingshan District Party Committee, Li Yong, mayor of the district, Xu Guodong, district leaders Xu Guodong, Chen Huaping and heads of relevant industrial departments received the members of the laboratory delegation. Secretary Tao Yongxin said that Pingshan District is focusing on building an ecosystem based on industry, focusing on transformation, facing the international and global innovation, and the landing and operation of Shenzhen Bay Laboratory Pingshan Center will improve the basic research ability of Pingshan biomedical industry as a whole, and promote the rapid development of Pingshan in terms of new drug research and development, technology transformation and industrial incubation. The district committee and government will fully support the development and construction of the laboratory in Pingshan, and do a good job in "one-stop" services in many aspects such as talent housing security, children's schooling, and scientific research supporting policy support, so as to enhance the sense of belonging and acquisition of scientific researchers. On behalf of the laboratory, Secretary Hu Xiaojun thanked the Pingshan District Government for its long-term support, and the laboratory will continue to solidly promote the work of Pingshan Center in the future, gather more outstanding talents at home and abroad, and help build a biomedical R&D and industrialization innovation highland.

During the period, the delegation also came to Pingshan National Biomedical Industry Base to have in-depth conversations with representatives of enterprises in the park. After the trip, laboratory scientists unanimously said that the event was very profitable, and looked forward to carrying out more scientific research project cooperation with Pingshan, exploring the construction of an open scientific research platform, and reaching cooperation with enterprises in disease screening and new drug research and development.
